Me in a nutshell...

I married my high school sweetheart in 2003 and have been enjoying the military life with all of it's challenges both good and bad since. I have a B.S. in Psychology, worked in law enforcement field and now am finding it difficult to find any work. I have decided to follow my heart and work with numbers! Yuck to some, but fun to me. I'm working on an Accounting degree while juggling military life, raising 2 beautiful kids and searching for an opening in the job market where I can hone my skills. Follow me along this fun, stressful and interesting journey....

CMO1 Completed!

I just completed the CMO1 assessment and I have to say that it is not much different from the pre-assessment.  I read that a couple of other students felt that it was different.  I have to disagree.  There were even a couple of questions that were almost if not identical to questions on the pre-assessment.

I found what worked best for me was to read through and take notes on the text.  Then I found the narrated slides (I attached a link) that I went through and watched and it really helped to solidify some things I was having problems with.

Overall a good deal of information but if you pace yourself and practice you will do fine.

March 1st 2014 Update

Welcome March, I am off to a good start.  I am now in my 3rd term at WGU and finally finished TPV1.  For any of those out there that are studying for this exam, please, please, please don't waste your time like I did.  I found that the BEST resource for this class is the Sybex text that is provided by WGU.  I read and used both of the other resources/texts that are provided by WGU and in my opinion they are unnecessary.  I have attached my notes from Sybex and I think that if you read through all 10 chapters and take good notes you will do great! I wish that I would have used this text before I took the test the 1st time.....hopefully this can help someone else.  I now am studying CMO1 (Concepts in Cost and Managerial Accounting), then I will have my capstone left and I am done.

Work update....
I am still working at Summit Electric Supply and I have been lucky to have been given a supervisor that is willing to give me more training and allow me to learn more than my position is meant to.  I have been doing some entry level accounting work.  I enjoy it greatly! It is like piecing puzzles together and solving problems all day.  So stimulating! I can't wait to get more into more challenging work and dive deeply into more accounting work.

I plan on gaining another year of experience and then plan to begin to study for the CPA.  I am not sure where I will sit for the exam as we could possibly PCS (military move).  Once I pass the CPA, I then plan to begin working on my MBA (hopefully I can get accepted to ASU's MBA program).

November 2013 Update....

It has been a long time since I have posted.  I have done so much since April.  Where to begin......well I have completed the following courses:
EGC1
CGC1 (hardest class by far! recommend that students get the 2nd attempt questions and answer those and use that as a study guide)
FNC1
AUO1
MKT1
ACA1
FNT1
EGT1

The classes that I have remaining are:
TPV1(so far the most boring course, test is at a testing site and cannot be taken via online proctor)
CMO1
BGA1
and CAPSTONE (QCT1)

I also started a new position in June.  I was able to obtain a position as a tax associate for an international electrical supply company.  I am also their bookkeeper for their 3 subsidiary companies.  It keeps me very busy and I am thoroughly enjoying being able to apply what I learned and continue to learn at WGU at work.  My goal is to be done by the end of this term which is the end of January.....wish me luck!!!!
